Thank you for this, and let me tell you, it was a great day in the city. The Pride Parade was a joyous one, an event that sincerely evinced a lot of civic pride in me. It was beautiful, but in spite of that, many people in that community, perhaps not so lucky to be living in a receptive urban core like Toronto, still struggle mightily, and there were traces of that, too, particularly in the young woman and her mother. I imagined them having a hard time, perhaps having difficulty reconciling things with one another and the community that they lived in, or perhaps having lost somebody close to them to AIDS. I have no idea if either of those things are true, but it’s what I thought I saw in their eyes.
